CloudApp: Terrible name, useful little app. {Download Squad}

Oct 23rd 2009 11:24AM You sure could, without the tiny, http://cld.ly/ URL. Also, you cannot shorten URLs with Dropbox. Dropbox would also require you to drag stuff into the dropbox folder. This removes a few steps from the process.

It's A Bird...It's A Plane...No, It's Super Sprint! {Agile Blog}

Feb 10th 2009 4:01PM A tremendous development effort with great results every time. "Code Jams" (I like Super Sprint better) have been a vital part of the Weblogs, Inc. success DNA from even pre-acquisition. AOL allowing us to keep these going, and even empowering-enabling more effective versions of it, has been a huge boon to our business.

Our small-but-mighty team of designer/coders are nearly in a constant state of sprint. Two things make this possible: 1) carefully guarded work hours and "off hours". 2) extremely skillfully managed development deadlines. These two elements working together enhance productivity. Allowing work to slip into off hours leads to burnout and job dissatisfaction. I would rather let a deadline slip then burn out a team member.

Rick and Felicia help me field a constant stream of development and maintenance requests, as well as ad sales opportunities and third-party partnership business opportunities. Working together with these two masterful program managers to break down these opportunities into discreet tasks and time lines (without being overly focused on the process of doing so, wasting time and effort) allows me to keep my designer/devs at maximum productivity while allowing them to leave work at work and relax in off time (rather than worrying about looming deadlines.)

I have never worked with a better program/project management team than Felicia and Rick.

I should also mention that, being a remote team, we look forward to these "code jams" in spite of the travel, insane hours, and time away from family. It is a time to re-connect face-to-face, joke, eat, and shoot the breeze together. Even though we are coming to campus, it is a bit more akin to an "off-site" working session for us.

We come away from the week having accomplished much that would take weeks to do in a different context. The "doubling" of the velocity is a bit hard to measure because of the amount of focus and prolonged, intense work that is able to be given to a task.

Overall these seem to be an incredibly effective time. This last one in particular with elements of "cross-pollination" with different groups and the hands-on training that was able to happen. Unbeatable situation.
